The Horse Stable
The horse stable was one of the biggest barns on the farm. In it's hay day, it housed my pa's horses, cows and mules. One the left side of the stable was where the pigs were kept. I never played in the stable as a child because it was inside the cow pasture. My daddy always told me the bulls would chase me and I was afraid of being trampled by them.
The old horse stable was one of the first buildings to start deteriorating. My Uncle Ray lived on the farm and tended the land after my pa died. It was abandoned in the mid seventies after his death and was never used again, except by the pigeons. I believe they stayed around the barn until the late 1980's.
I would've loved nothing more than to restore this old stable into a useful facility. Unfortunately, it was too far gone and was a total hazard. These two picture are very special to me. They are among the last few taken of my daddy before he got sick. It wouldn't be much longer before he wouldn't recognize the farm that he had grown up on and loved. A stroke would soon follow and change all of our lives forever.
...a sad day on the farm when one of the biggest and oldest barns had to be burned.
